Welcome to Spookdraai Guesthouse L'agulhas
Legend has it that at Spookdraai or Ghost Corner in bygone times a ship had foundered in the bay and only one person, a young woman with beautiful slender hands and the voice of an angel, washed up alive at the bay of Spookdraai.
She managed to find her way to a cave in the mountains just behind where the Spookdraai Guesthouse is situated today, but most unfortunately, having survived drowning, later died there. Her angelic songs can often be heard at night.
Towards the end of the 15th century Portuguese explorers named this of Africa, Cabo das Agulhas’ which means Cape of Needles, not as a result of the treacherous rocks and reefs, but, as their wooden sailing ships rounded the Cape, sailors discovered their compass needles would swing about and they were unable to determine true north from magnetic north. Many a shipwreck is to be found in the area, which led to the building of the lighthouse in 1848.
Spookdraai Guesthouse offers 6 big comfortable en-suite luxury rooms, 5 of which has sea views and one with a vineyard mountain view and each with a private terrace. We have a heated pool for you to enjoy year round, with wonderful views, there also is an elevated view point, great for sundowners and whale watching. At Spookdraai we also planted a small vineyard which is one of the most southern vineyard on the continent of Africa.
Spookdraai is the perfect base to explore all the wonders of the L’agulhas area. A definite first is to visit the southernmost point of Africa and also do a lighthouse tour. One of the best hiking trails starts at your front door at Spookdraai Guesthouse and follows a circular path along ocean and into the hills around the Guesthouse, it’s a comfortable 2 hour hike. Also visit the nearby Elim Wine Farms, Struisbaai Harbour or enjoy fishing charter.
The Guesthouse Manager Marshall and his team will ensure you have a fantastic stay, he can even prepare you dinner and introduce you to many traditional South African and L’agulhas cuisines.

OUR ROOMS
Spookdraai Guesthouse offers six big comfortable en-suite luxury rooms, five of which has sea views and one with a vineyard-mountain view. All our rooms are en-suite, has wifi internet and a TV.
Beach House
Escape to Oom Jan Beach House, the perfect spot for an unforgettable family getaway.
Nestled by the ocean and overlooking the southernmost point of Africa, this spacious beach house is ideal for larger families or groups of friends seeking a well-deserved break.
Enjoy the breathtaking ocean views while having a braai with family and friends. Each room is en suite and thoughtfully equipped with a fridge, kettle, and TV, offering both comfort and convenience.

The main house consists of 4 en suite bedrooms. The one bedroom has a single bed in the living area and there is a bunk bed that sleeps two in Main living area. The cottage is detached from the main house with kitchenette and bathroom and sleeps 2 guests.
Rent the whole house or separate units.
There is a splash pool in the front of the property and ample parking off street parking for cars, trailers and more.

Guest access
Guests have access to whole property, Main house, Flat, Parking Area and Swimming pool area. The only private area is the laundry room where our housekeeper stay Malvern stays.
Other things to note
Malven our housekeeper stays in his private living area on the property. He welcomes our guests and see to it that their stay is enjoyable
We have fast internet but there is no TV
We do not supply wood. Please bring wood

Visit the lighthouse and the most Southern Point of Africa, where the 2 oceans meet. The Harbour in Struisbaai is also busy with activity on weekends with weather permitting.
We have some very interesting visitors to our property, and they can keep you entertained.
